An expert in data science and the use of technology to assist our understanding of the world around us, Dr. Altintas will share her research and insights on the profound impact of the information revolution on education and society.
About Ilkay Altintas
Dr. Ilkay Altintas is the Chief Data Science Officer at the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC), UC San Diego, where she is also the Founder and Director for the Workflows for Data Science Center of Excellence. Her passion is leading collaborative multi-disciplinary computational data science teams to deliver impactful results that make their work more reusable, programmable, scalable and reproducible. Her work is applied to many scientific and societal domains including bioinformatics, geo-informatics, high-energy physics, multi-scale biomedical science, computational drug discovery, smart cities, and smart manufacturing.
She has worked on many aspects of scientific computing and data science as both a principal investigator and as a chief data scientist across a wide range of cross-disciplinary NSF, DOE, NIH and Moore Foundation projects. author of publications related to computational science, data science and e-Sciences at the intersection of workflows, provenance, distributed computing, big data, observatory systems, reproducibility, and software modeling in many different application areas.
